ABOUT US
The Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS) was founded by Harsh Vardhan Shringla (HVS), former Foreign Secretary of India, Ambassador to USA, Bangladesh and Thailand and Chief Coordinator of India’s G20 Presidency. DWS was formally registered as a Society in 2023 but was conceptualised in 2014 when HVS began to assist underprivileged communities in rural Darjeeling in a modest manner.
DWS activities were stepped up during the COVID pandemic when HVS observed that communities in the Darjeeling area were severely affected by livelihood loss and the lack of equipment and medical facilities to deal with the pandemic.

REGISTRATION FOR DWS UPSC COACHING 2026
Under the visionary leadership of President Harsh Vardhan Shringla UPSC CSE Rank 15 in 1984, distinguished IFS officer, former Foreign Secretary of India, and former Ambassador to the U.S., Thailand, and High Commissioner to Bangladesh—the Darjeeling Welfare Society launches a free UPSC coaching center. This initiative is dedicated to empowering youth from Darjeeling and nearby areas with mentorship, resources, and guidance to help them succeed in one of India’s most prestigious examinations.

Free UPSC Coaching By GTA and DWS - A Joint Collaboration
Inauguration of Free UPSC Coaching by the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration in Collaboration with the Darjeeling Welfare Society
The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), in collaboration with the Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS), proudly inaugurated free UPSC coaching facilities today. This initiative, launched Jointly by Shri Anit Thapa and Shri Harshvardhan Shringla in the presence of, Hon’ble chairman Shri Anjul Chowhan, Hon’ble deputy chairman Shri Rajesh Chauhan, IPrincipal secretary GTA Shri Vijay Bharati and Secretary GTA Shri Suden Tshering Bhutia.
