ABOUT US

The Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS) is a registered non-profit organization founded by Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and a seasoned diplomat with a four-decade legacy of exemplary public service. Under his visionary leadership, DWS has established itself as a dedicated catalyst for social transformation and inclusive development across Darjeeling and Siliguri regions. While formally registered in 2023, the Society’s grassroots impact spans a decade, having driven critical youth empowerment and community development initiatives throughout Darjeeling and its adjoining areas since 2014. DWS works extensively for underprivileged and marginalised communities across Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, North Bengal and the North Eastern region, with a strong focus on youth and women empowerment, livelihood generation, education, healthcare and environmental sustainability. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Society undertook several humanitarian and relief initiatives, including medical assistance, livelihood support and facilitation services for stranded individuals from the region.

Among its flagship initiatives are programmes promoting alternative livelihood opportunities in the tea gardens of Darjeeling, Rozgar Mela 1.0 in Darjeeling, Rozgar Mela 2.0 in Siliguri, and free UPSC Civil Services Examination coaching for underprivileged youth from the hills and adjoining areas. Through these sustained efforts, DWS continues to work towards building a more empowered, self-reliant and inclusive society.

REGISTRATION FOR DWS UTKARSH 2026-2027

DWS Utkarsh is the flagship youth empowerment initiative of the Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS), developed in partnership with Physics Wallah (PW) to provide free, high-quality coaching for government competitive examinations across the North Bengal region.

Derived from the Sanskrit word Utkarsh, meaning “Excellence”, the programme is designed to bridge educational inequities and ensure that deserving aspirants are not limited by financial constraints. Through this transformative initiative, DWS aims to support more than 10,000 students and job aspirants from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and neighbouring districts.

DWS Utkarsh offers structured, examination-focused coaching for 16 major government recruitment examinations, including UPSC, WBPSC, SSC, NDA, CDS, AFCAT, CAPF, Agniveer, West Bengal Police, and other defence and paramilitary services. The programme caters to a wide spectrum of learners, ranging from Class 10 and 12 pass-outs to graduates aspiring for careers in public service.

By eliminating coaching costs that often place a significant burden on families, DWS Utkarsh creates a level playing field and opens pathways to opportunity for talented youth from diverse backgrounds. Leveraging Physics Wallah’s advanced learning ecosystem, expert faculty, and technology-driven educational resources, participants receive comprehensive preparation, mentorship, and guidance—completely free of charge.

DWS Utkarsh is more than a coaching programme; it is a movement to nurture talent, expand opportunity, and build a stronger future for the youth of North Bengal.
