Rozgar Mela

In December 2023, the Darjeeling Welfare Society organised a large-scale employment drive – the Rozgar Mela on the theme ‘Get Hired or Inspired’. The objective of the Rozgar Mela was to provide opportunities to the youth of Darjeeling and around to appear for direct interviews for their dream jobs. The Rojgar Mela drew participants from various regions such as Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, Siliguri, and neighboring states including Sikkim and Meghalaya. There were over 2000 registrations and more than 700 interviews in a span of 2 days. The selection process ran seamlessly, ensuring a fair chance for candidates from various backgrounds. This pioneering initiative attracted a diverse pool of participants and culminated in an impressive 270 job offers from leading companies including the Taj Group, TATA Trent, Thomas Cook, Intercontinental Hotels, and Birdy’s. Among the successful candidates were 65 talented youths selected as Management Trainees by the Taj Group, one hired by Birdys for their international operations in Mauritius and a differently abled candidate. The closing ceremony was attended by local luminaries, successful candidates, and their parents. The Chairperson of Darjeeling Municipality and other municipal councillors were also in attendance. The Rojgar Mela in Darjeeling not only provided golden job opportunities but also served as a platform for inspiration, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and the local job market.
