A moment of profound reverence at Dechen Tashi Choling Monastery, Singtam, Darjeeling:
In 2014, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, MP, who was then Ambassador of India in Thailand, arranged to have sacred bronze statues of Gautama Buddha and his principal disciples donated to the Tashi Choling Monastery in Singtam. On the Thai side, the initiative was undertaken by Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, who arranged for the visit of a high level Thai delegation to visit Singtam and offer the statues of the Buddha to the monastery. This has since become a symbol of peace, compassion, and cultural friendship between Thailand and Darjeeling. That year marked the first event of the Darjeeling Welfare Society, which would later earn its name and recognition, and finally be registered in 2023. Today, as Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, now Minister in the Govt of Thailand and Chairperson of the Thai-Indian Friendship Association, has returned to the monastery to rekindle the spirit of goodwill that gave rise to this sacred place. Together, with the Darjeeling Welfare Society and the Singtam community, we honor this enduring bond of compassion and unity.
