In the aftermath of the devastating landslides that struck various parts of the Darjeeling Hills, Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, President of the Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS), has been at the forefront of relief and rehabilitation initiatives across the affected regions. His continued presence and compassionate leadership have provided strength, assurance, and hope to the families facing unimaginable loss.
In Tabakoshi, Shri Shringla personally visited the landslide-affected areas where several homes were completely destroyed. He interacted with the displaced families, distributed essential relief materials, and assured that all possible efforts are being made to connect them with government assistance for rehabilitation and rebuilding.
Continuing his efforts, Shri Shringla reached Poobong and Pokhrebong, where the landslides had left many families homeless. He met the affected residents, distributed necessary supplies, and emphasized the commitment of the Darjeeling Welfare Society to stand beside every family until they can rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
In Mirik, Shri Shringla, along with members of the West Bengal Red Cross and the Darjeeling Welfare Society, met the families of those who tragically lost their lives in the recent calamity, including 11-year-old Ruhi Bhutia of 11th Mile and 8-year-old Aahan Chettri of Bishnulal Gaon. He extended heartfelt condolences and visited both urban and rural areas, including the severely affected region of Thurbo, to assess the extent of the damage. Shri Shringla assured that every effort will be made to provide the bereaved families with necessary support for their recovery and rehabilitation.
He also accompanied Hon’ble Governor Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose to the Dudhia region to assess the widespread destruction, where the collapse of the Dudhia Bridge over the Balasun River has severely disrupted connectivity. Shri Shringla visited the affected families whose homes were swept away due to severe soil erosion and coordinated with the Indian Army for the installation of a temporary Bailey Bridge to restore access to the area.
Shri Shringla also expressed gratitude for the support extended through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), which sanctioned financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives and to the seriously injured. Efforts are underway to facilitate long-term rehabilitation through the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) to help rebuild homes and restore livelihoods.
Under the leadership of Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Darjeeling Welfare Society continues to exemplify compassion and service in times of crisis—bringing together people, resources, and hope to help the resilient communities of the Darjeeling Hills rebuild their lives and look forward to a better tomorrow.
